The Corner Store Acrylics, markers, pencils, pastels Size: 16 x 16" Nature, animals, and taking walks in my neighborhood inspire my art. I use a variety of materials and techniques, loving the process of applying paint and other mediums.I take inspiration from what I see emerge. Didion Remembered Acrylic on Canvas Size: 16 x 20" In recent years I have been drawn to strong portraits, photography or otherwise, of women in the past or present day that I have admired. Ocean Floor Encaustic Painting Size: 12 x 12" I am an encaustic artist which means that I paint with resin and beeswax. I leverage my advanced degrees in Invertebrate Zoology and Marine Ecology to inform my point of view. I paint memories of growing up along the rural coast of New England. 'Ocean Floor' is the essence of many summers spent along the waters edge, turning over rocks and sorting through seaweed. It harkens back to simpler times spent outdoors with nature for entertainment. Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between the artist and buyer after the purchase.

Fire in the Sky Pastel on Paper Size: 11 x 14" The movement , the vibrancy of color of skies as they are setting is magical. Never the same . Afternoon Oil on Canvas Size: 18 x 24" I am totally inspired by nature and the world it reveals. I look constantly at the sky, woods and the nature around me, fascinated by colors, light and shadow. In my studio I recreate what I just saw outside from memory, working with colors and shapes that recreate the glorious feeling I felt from the "looking" experience. I believe that nature represents all that is true in this universe and that it connects us all-animal, human and other unseen worlds. And for me, it is a truly beautiful experience that is totally uplifting! Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between the artist and buyer after the purchase.

Outreach Watercolor Size: 11 x 15" This painting is inspired by early spring hikes in the woods. I stop and take photos of wildflowers, then identify them. From these images, I created a collage with different flowers reaching out to each other. As in my other paintings, I love viewing natural objects as potential subjects. Nature soothes me, and my watercolor art aims to create a peaceful vibe using vibrant colors and intricate patterns. My goal is to create soothing and captivating watercolor paintings that offer viewers a serene escape into the beauty of nature. Parts of the Whole Printmaking: Monotype w/chine colle, acrylic paint, gold leaf Size: 10 x 8"
My current work investigates the nature of communication - natural, political, interpersonal and geographical - to see how they attune to each other and hold the whole intact or fail and misfire. I use various printmaking methods like a cook would mix edible ingredients. The inherent notion of trust in systems as safety nets, protection and comfort is currently a consideration for every American given current political policy makers. It is only with scrutiny and discernment that we can examine which systems we have become complacent about saving or redeeming. This piece evolved from 2024 through 2025. Collage bits, text and gold leaf obliquely mirror current overload of information from which we are to extract our truth.

Thoughts Extend Sculpture-wood, found rust Size of Piece: 20.5 x 7
I negotiate my world as a maker. I love trees. Picking up fallen branches and twigs delights me. Rooting through my collection of gathered materials, I'm always thrilled to combine disparate elements and create a new object. My current piece, Extended Thoughts, is wood-carved, burned, and pigmented with colored pencil. The base is composed of various pieces of Rust - a square washer, a vintage gutter guard woven with coated yellow wire, and an old tree stand.

Standing Firm4 Acrylic on Canvas Size: 24 x 20" Jill Cliffer Baratta, MFA has been a member, volunteer and officer of NAWA since 2011. Visiting Brookgreen Gardens in 2023, attending a South Carolina Chapter meeting, Jill wandered the gardens. The land was donated by sculptor and NAWA member Anna Hyatt Huntington and her husband in 1931, so it took on significance beyond the beauty of the expansive estate. The bronze series “Circle of Life, Spring” caught the eye. The acrylic painting, entitled “Standing Firm,” is an interpretation of this figure, created by Harold “Tuck” Langland in 2001, and donated to the park. The image, backed by Spanish moss, took on special meaning as Jill’s daughter was just moving to the southern U.S., and is a yoga instructor. Further insight emerged as the politics of the country caused so much upheaval that the title of the painting, “Standing Firm” took on additional and deeper meaning. Glass Bowl of Oranges, Pitcher with Top, Red Peppers Watercolor Painting Size: 8 x 13" For over twenty-five years, I was a Professor of Sociology and Women’s Studies at Northeastern University in Boston, where I live. After a productive life as an academic: teacher and scholar who wrote several books, I retired and changed direction completely. Spontaneously, I started to paint with watercolors, taking classes and workshops whenever and wherever I could. I was possessed with the desire to visually represent, in beautiful watercolor, fruits and vegetables in bowls and on plates, creating a new way of seeing beauty in everyday, taken-for-granted objects. I love color and transparent watercolor. Light and shadow --created by the sun outside but observed primarily indoors in the kitchen-- are magic. For me, lighted round fruits of vibrant colors, such as oranges and tomatoes, combined with blues, usually found in ceramics and fabric, represent a promise: of the pleasures of food, meals, community, and peacefulness. Watercolors are part of that promise. The term ‘still life’ is significant in more ways than one: the world needs still life. Using a transparent palette and techniques, I arrange and rearrange kitchen items, often food, in the sun attempting to capture beautiful colors with their shadows and reflections. My goal as an artist is to represent life in ways that create viewers’ pleasure in my artistic accomplishment and images. The Sky Above Oil paint, tissue paper, oil pastel Size of Piece: 16 x 20"
I am both a professional musician and artist. I experience life as having order as well as disorder through sound and sight. I create art along with music. The execution of the painting therefore becomes a personal performance, as were my song recitals when I was singing professionally, the one difference being: I am not interpreting someone else's poetry - I am creating my own in color and shape.

Organ Concerto Oil Size: 20 x 16" Organ Concerto created during an artist residency in France, last year, in which I focused on the mastery of the use of cold wax medium and working in a series. This painting, part of the series, Symphony of Scars, focuses on the human experience—our frailties and vulnerabilities contrasted with the remarkable human capacity for strength and resilience. Organ Concerto at first glance, exudes a somewhat playful mood, yet beneath the surface, a deeper profound commentary on the human condition emerges reflecting the physical and emotional scars we carry. The layered structures and abstracted bodily forms reference the inner workings of the human body manifesting how it works synergistically to maintain homeostasis and balance. My choice of materials, oil, cold wax medium, pigment and inks, mounted on a sturdy wood substrate, facilitates a dynamic range of textures and depth, mirroring the layered complexities of human emotions and experiences. Steinhatchee Falls Acrylic on Canvas Size: 24 x 24" I created this piece en plein air in the remote reaches of rural Taylor County, Florida, which has been devastated several years in a row by epic hurricanes and flooding. Gulf Tide Monotype on Printmaking Paper Size of Piece: 18 x 24
My art is a vibrant celebration of nature's dynamic energy, inspired by the breathtaking landscapes of Naples, Florida. During a morning walk, I was captivated by the shimmering sunlight kissing the horizon, the playful splashes of fish beneath the surface, and the gentle sway of seagrass on coral as it danced to the rhythm of each tidal wave. Through the expressive medium of Monotype and impressionistic mark-making, I endeavored to capture the gulf's movement and vitality—including its intense color palette and abundant life below reaching upward to the sunlight.

Martin Newell C, M Relief Print (linoleum) on paper Size: 19.25 x 17" I made this print based on a black and white photo I took of Martin Newell. I was teaching a printmaking class in which I wanted to instruct newer students how to think about making an image without outlining the subject, but instead to utilize negative space (i.e.: high key lighting). The first pull was done with black ink on white paper, but then I thought it would be even more intriguing to use transparent process colors and layering, thus another lesson! Icy Dawn Oil on linen panel Size: 16 x 12" I was on my way to the gym at dawn for a swim workout when I noticed the sky and its reflection on the frozen lake. I stopped to take photos and took color notes of the magnificent scene before me. I was inspired to paint this, of course, but this experience also inspired my day. I was reminded how important it is to be present and appreciate every moment. That was a great day! Judith CarlinFreehand Digital Painting, Pigment Print on CanvasSize: 32 x 40" "My Worlds Are Colliding" is a freehand digital painting which means every stroke is painted by me as if I were painting with a brush on canvas. This painting is a metaphor for the public, private and secret lives we each have. We try very hard to keep these worlds compartmentalized. No matter how hard we try, many times our worlds will collide with each other and cause chaos within our lives and others. "My Worlds Are Colliding" addresses our currently polarized society. Not only our individual public, private and secret worlds crashing into each other but the worlds of others being revealed to us can be life changing and dangerous. Coral Cockatoos Charcoal and Acrylic on Panel Size: 6 x 6" Phantasmagoria is my original art technique, developed to create haunting, ethereal visuals, similar to daguerreotypes (an early form of photography where the image was made on a polished silver-coated copper plate). By combining the deep, matte tones of charcoal with the iridescent shimmer of interference acrylics, I craft images that blend nostalgic depth with modern luminescence. Charcoal creates rich contrasts and textures, while thin layers of interference acrylics add a color-shifting glow, evoking a ghostly movement. Named after 19th-century optical spectacles, Phantasmagoria produces dreamlike, timeless artworks that fuse sharp detail with otherworldly light. Joseph's Tunic Watercolor on paper Size: 20.75 x 24" For the past several years I’ve been dealing with my daughter’s untimely death. She taught middle school ancient history. That’s what led me to look at a schematic of the Biblical tabernacle in Jerusalem and make paintings based on it. Some of this work has focused on the scarlet, purple, and indigo veils that separate the three sections of the tabernacle. Recently, I’ve delved into the Old Testament to learn about the cloths used to make garments. I’ve made paintings of Jospeh’s tunic and Job’s sack cloth. I like the meditative quality of this new work and how it sustains me. After covering the surface of the paper or canvas with hundreds of circles or ellipses, I build layer upon layer of paint leaving some areas exposed. Making painting with these references lets me feel connected to my daughter and is helping me process my grief. Fluidity of Universal Time Poured watercolors, acrylics, UV varnish on canvas Size: 18 x 24" In recent years, the universe has been an intriguing source of inspiration. I have created a series of three unique versions of the universe: “Window on my universe” , “Doorways to alternate universes” and now my third painting of this series, which I call: “Fluidity of universal time.” In this painting I once again look to retreat into my imagination and examine time and our universe through the lens of my “mind’s eye” . For this painting I examine not only what I imagine the celestial world looks like but also the concept of time. With a little help from Salvador Dali, I conclude that our interpretation of time is relative to our uniquely different fluid views. Curls Chinese Ink on Cold Pressed Watercolor Paper Size: 26 x 22" My latest series captures sunflowers in the process of aging to explore the third act of life; the search for new purpose. Blown Away by a Namesake Painting: Oil, acrylic and found objects on canvas Size: 27 x 23" "Blown Away by a Namesake" explores the duality of the hand grenade, highlighting the surprising etymological connection between the weapon and the fruit. In many languages, the two share a name, a link that stems from their visual resemblance: the pomegranate packed with seeds, the grenade packed with shrapnel. I was drawn to how a fruit, a symbol of abundance, and a weapon, a symbol of destruction, could be so closely tied through language and form. By using contrasting imagery and styles, the paintings move beyond literal resemblance to suggest deeper ideas. They speak to the coexistence of creation and destruction, beauty and violence, abundance and fragmentation, and the stark contrasts that reveal the dualities in language, objects, and the narratives we build around them. The artwork challenges us to find beauty in unexpected places and to recognize the complex interplay between creation and destruction that shapes our existence. Cosmic Peony Power Oil on Canvas Size of Piece: 30 x 30
In the painting Cosmic Peony Power, there is a blend of realism and abstraction that creates a dynamic tension, suggesting a connection between the flower's microcosmic form and the universe. Moon in the Water Oil on Canvas Size of Piece: 48 x 36
My painting was inspired by a phrase used by Master Dogen (1200-1253), the founder of Zen Buddhism, when teaching about the ineffable experience of enlightenment -- "moon in the water". The moon being a symbol of enlightenment and the water referring to the human mind freed of the obscuration of incessant thinking, thus becoming like an empty, open mirror able to clearly reflect the true nature of reality, allowing the direct experience of one's own true nature. Terra, the Primordial Breath Acrylic on Canvas, Oil Pastels, Gesso, Inks, Paper Size: 48 x 36" This piece was inspired by the idea of Earth’s very first breath—raw, sacred, and full of potential. The deep, textured browns at the base represent the primordial ground, untouched and alive with energy. I built up layers slowly, letting the textures emerge naturally, almost like the Earth forming itself. The lighter transition at the top suggests air and life beginning to stir—a shift from matter to spirit. I worked intuitively, letting the process mirror nature’s own rhythm of creation and transformation. It’s less about depicting a place and more about capturing a feeling: the quiet power of beginnings. U.S. Constitution on a knot Sculpture: Carrara marble and granite Size of Piece: 36 x 22 x 26"
Political parties in the United States are fighting against each other and can’t agree on anything. Everyone is in a knot. So I decided to make a literal knot out of the Constitution, held up with a carving of my hands. My hands, my statement. - Robin Antar “U.S. Constitution in a Knot” is a symbolic piece featuring the U.S. Constitution as a document, with all seven articles, tied into a knot, representing the complexities and challenges within the nation's principles. The intertwined form reflects current turmoil, while intricately detailed hands symbolize individual responsibility and the struggle to uphold these values. The sculpture rests on a pile of rough granite chips, highlighting themes of fragmentation and disarray, contrasting with the smooth marble. Overall, it serves as a poignant commentary on the chaotic state of the nation, embodying both despair and determination in the effort to maintain important values amidst societal conflict.
