Living on the coast of Massachusetts, the ocean is part of my daily existence. Most of my semi-abstract paintings reflect my love of the environment and concern for the future of our fragile planet. I want to capture the essence of water in my work. Searching for water’s primary qualities, I use light, color, form, shape, line, to create the sensibility of water — its fluidity, rhythms, transparency, and the sense of mystery in the unknown ocean depths. It is the colors, forms, and overall mark-making call to me the most. As an intuitive painter, I respond to the paint itself more than rigidly adhering to any preconceived plan. Each painting is an exploration.
