For me the experience of encaustics is very focused and feels a bit dangerous—you have to keep the temperature just right so it doesn’t overheat and yet there is still a flow in application. I feel like I’m joyously painting with volcanic lava.
As I worked on this piece it started to suggest its theme was the night sky and our expanding universe.
