SUPPORT NAWA

The historic National Association of Women Artists, Inc. (NAWA) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Since 1889 the National Association of Women Artists has stood as a beacon of opportunity and advancement for women in the arts. While we celebrate recent progress in recognizing women artists, the statistics remain stark:

The Reality Today:

  • Women artists are still significantly underrepresented in major museums, galleries, and collections worldwide.
  • Despite women earning more than half of the MFAs granted in the United States, only 13% of art on display in major U.S. museums is by women artists
  • Even more telling, while 51% of today’s working visual artists are women, they represent only 14% of exhibitions at leading art institutions.

To donate by credit card – please call the NAWA office:646-461-0068.

Does your employer match donations? If so, your gift to NAWA can be doubled or tripled. Please send a matching gift form (available through your company’s personnel or human resource office) with your gift, and help NAWA take advantage of your company’s generosity.

Gifts of appreciates securities provide an opportunity to support NAWA with advantageous tax benefits to you. Please contact your broker to discuss this gift, as your broker will need certain information from NAWA.

Please remember NAWA when organizing your Estate planning. You will be supporting and promoting women artists throughout the U.S. and the impact on the Arts & Culture community and the art viewing public should not be forgotten.

Bequests: All bequests of specific assets are fully deductible for estate tax purposes. These bequests should be outlined in your will as follows:

  • Unrestricted bequests of Specific Assets: The standard legal wording for this type of bequest is as follows:“I give, devise and bequeath to National Association of women Artists, Inc. of New York, New York 10018, the sum of $ ____________ (or property described) for its general purposes”.
  • Unrestricted Bequest of a Percentage of Your Estate: This will ensure that NAWA will receive a percentage of your eventual estate, even if the nature and disposition of your assets change and grow over the years. The proper wording is as follows:
“I give, devise and bequeath (percent) of the rest, residue and remainder of my estate to National Association of women Artists, Inc. of New York, New York , 10018, for its general purposes.”

An unrequested bequest allows NAWA the greatest flexibility; however, bequests for a purpose of special interest to the donor are also most welcome.

With a gift of $10,000.00 or more, a permanent named endowment fund can be established. To make a restricted bequest to NAWA you would use the same standard language shown above and simply substitute the designated purpose in place of the words “for its general purposes.”

If you’ve already made a bequest to NAWA please let us know so we can thank you and honor your wishes. Contact Jill Cliffer Baratta, Executive Director at executivedirector@thenawa.org.
