As an artist deeply inspired by the organic nature of the world, my work is a dialogue between the present and the ancient past, a conversation carried on by the landscapes that have shaped my being. This series of paintings is a tribute to the stone circles that punctuate the landscapes of the British Isles—an enduring testament to the ingenuity and spirituality of the Neolithic and Bronze Age peoples.
In my exploration, I endeavor to distill these ancient formations into their fundamental forms, seeking to unravel the deliberate placements of each stone within elevated situations, valleys, and clearings. Each stroke on the canvas is an homage to these monoliths, which, though their meanings are veiled by time, continue to resonate with a mysterious allure.
These standing stones, once the playgrounds of my childhood, held an enigmatic presence that fueled my imagination and curiosity. As they weather the elements, transforming into fragmented ruins, they remain steadfast in my memory as pivotal markers of the untamed wilds of my homeland. Through abstract landscapes, I aim to rekindle the magic of these sites, portraying the stones as bold focal points amidst the verdant escarpments of the South Downs.
My paintings are not mere representations but interpretations—a synthesis of history, memory, and the natural world. It is my aspiration that through this series, viewers might be transported to those mystical realms, where past and present converge, and the stones continue to whisper their ancient secrets to those willing to listen.
