Spring Fling

Encaustic on cradled panel with embedded collage

Size: 24 x 24″

This work joins a series of encaustic works musing on the meaning of “security”. I use the interior patterns of security envelopes—used to protect our financial information—in hexagonal shapes that suggest traditional quilts—maybe security blankets. This work includes the use of India ink. Now that our assumptions about Social Security are being tested it seems appropriate to think of this work as “Spring Fling” —the double meaning of having security flung to the winds in an ortherwise heady season.
