This painting describes the extraordinary, reflective phase of my life and work. What began as a watercolor study of a limestone cliff developed into a painting that reveals an awareness of, and gratitude for, those who came before me. They were immersed in Welsh culture, so influenced by dark landscapes and skies. I have always seen faces in clouds and rocks but this time they spoke as my artistic ancestors, stubborn, wise, musical, poetic. But that was my past. My present is American, and my future is unknown, but this is an homage to endurance.
