Magic Tree was initially a plein-air painting inspired by morning sunlight passing through an ornamental tree. It was developed further in the studio, but the sensation of the intense, low light and delicate bone structure of the tree was the feeling I hoped to convey. Using oil paint on a metal substrate allows reflectiveness at different angles when viewing the painting. This is a work that is all about light.
