When painting with acrylics I explore the boundaries between representation & abstraction. I reduce the subjects to bold, simplified forms & create excitement, tension & often lots of space on the canvases. The sparks that start the process are the natural world & the life around us. Quartet was inspired by the 3 years I lived on a 600 hectare farmstead in South Africa. The waterhole on the property was a stop for numerous species of birds. The blue heron, snowy egret & slaty heron were the most frequent visitors. The Inner Core from the Circle of Life Series is about nature’s way of taking back & giving life to the earth, a circle of energy. Within this circle there is the power to find light in the darkness. To achieve this I used different values of neutrals in the composition.
