This painting is one of my new series of 18 portraits celebrating the LGBTQ community. As the mother of a son who identifies as Queer, as an American citizen and as a human being, I believe it is important to give a tribute of love to those too often ignored, discriminated against, at best misunderstood and at worst persecuted. Documenting this population’s personal stories and intimate dreams beyond their sometimes-non-conforming appearance or behaviors, is crucial to further their universal acceptance and enable them to live their lives openly and freely.
Gary is a friend of a friend and he was very willing to let me paint his portrait.
