My art is inspired by the 19th-century Fontainebleau painters and their up-close sous-bois perspective. I focus on the intricate details of natural textures, colors, and diverse life in the undergrowth of Florida’s native trees. My contemporary up-close viewpoint is rooted in exploring light and shadow within monotype prints, plaster sculptures, and paintings. Layers of additive and reductive color are carved with mark-making tools to create textures that vibrate between contemporary, impressionism, and abstractionism, forming an interdependent relationship with the past and present.
