The spark of inspiration for this body of work came from a stay in New York City, specifically in the Chelsea neighborhood.

In the painting Chelsea’s Story, the vibrating, sunlit colors on the church spires were absolutely irresistible and something I had to paint in contrast to the rest of the building in shadow.

I find this an exciting approach in my work, paying respect to artists I admire who have come before such as Edward Hopper, Charles Sheeler and countless masters.
