Gesture and the human condition are the impetus for my work.
I look for images in the newspapers, magazines and ads to use as models. An interesting gesture or the interaction between two or more people stimulate my imagination. The painting or drawing has its own direction and is quite a departure from the initial inspiration. My choice of color is also a tool to direct the narrative of my work. It’s my intention to tell a story. The placement of objects and the facial expression and posture of my subjects are meant to nurture the tale.
Often, I draw or paint from my imagination. The subjects or objects are invented. The possibilities for narrative are limitless.
