Balance, from my Pair Series, was inspired by Leonardo da Vinci’s ink drawing, Vitruvian Man, and my desire to include the other half of humanity into the conversation. In my intaglio/charcoal print, I add a female figure, to express the equality, and complementary nature of the sexes. While Leonardo’s circle is implied, it is not shown but replaced by a star to symbolize the connection between everything in the Universe. FYI: It maybe of it interest to others that Leonardo had been inspired by the writings of Vitruvius, an ancient Roman architect.
