Under Pressure
Wood-fired stoneware, mink, cedar, iron
Size of Piece: 22 x 20 x 8
Human Interference with Earth is the concept of this work.
I grew up on the Iron Range in northern Minnesota where open pit, strip mining affected everyone’s lives- positively and negatively. Today the scars of the iron ore mines still and forever will mark the earth.
Today, I question mining methods and the impact on the earth’s natural resources. In some instances, mining aids economic growth, but at what cost? Fresh water, air, wildlife and human habitat are under pressure.
