Riding the Wave

In creating RIDING THE WAVE I brought together my love of poplar wood’s natural beauty and my fascination with the spiral form. First I carved and shaped the wood slab to highlight its particular grain patterns. Then, to form a wavelike shape, I sliced the slab into equal-width sections and attached them to one another with slightly offset positioning. Once assembled I further refined the form. To maximize its sense of movement, I elevated the sculpture and oriented it horizontally.
