wax pastel on paper

It was a traumatic summer. I was 8 years old when I was sexually assaulted by a stranger in a movie theater. There was no one to talk to about this. I kept it to myself. My childhood self was so strong, and imagination and creativity were her saving graces. Artwork became a way to both contain and express emotions that might otherwise have overwhelmed me, and it transformed pain into beauty.
