This life size torso is a self portrait, created during a tumultuous time in my life. The cloth on the side rises up and the weave turns into forms that become birds, taking flight across the neck.
The birds represent my yearning for freedom from a frightening, stifling relationship. I had to hide this stone as I was working on it, to prevent losing it. The day came when I was free, like the birds made from my own hands.
This piece gives me a feeling of hope and joy because of the time shared together. It is uncanny how Wish holds natural light, glowing wherever it’s placed. I now show it illuminated, to bring forth the true feeling of the piece.
