Jazz – the original music of America, was born in New Orleans from blues and gospel, African rhythms and melodies, hymns, ragtime, spirituals and other musical styles. Incorporated into my work are the colors of the clothing, the noise and grids of city living, notes of music, buttons and keys of horns, and the fingerprints of the musicians who created jazz. The whimsical placement of the notes, on the underlying rhythmic and repeated colors and shapes, can bring the viewer to almost hear the music in this painting.
