Almost a Square of Red Lines
Size: 11 x 11
Framed Size: 15 x 15
Cheryl Levin’s current minimal ink drawings on paper use repetition to bind herself to the creative process. Using dip pen or brush, each line she applies is akin to a sentence in a letter making paragraphs on a page; each drawn line follows the next creating a correspondence with her inner and outer self. Almost a Square of Red Lines is part of multiple series of Levin’s as part of her growth and transformation from major life changes thus her work is often viewed as landscapes of lives’ journeys or life paths. Here, the whole square – not quite filled in – reflects what is left out of the landscape of our lives. The papers’ edge and the ink absorption become part of the fragile journey.
