Through my paintings, I’ve become attentive to the splendid drama of my everyday world. How the wind can create a ripple in a pond, a flock of birds descending on a field, or how sunlight can illuminate the side of a building are small miracles that happen all around us. In my latest series of oil paintings called Old Souls, I have paid homage to the trees I’m familiar with as I progress through my daily life and work. I thought of these paintings more as portraits of friends than as landscape paintings. I believe nature is intertwined with our lives and has an awareness of our human activity. I find this feeling most prevalent with trees.
