The descriptive and passionately written poem, “The Sea”, by Ralph Waldo Emerson, was my inspiration for this painting. I strived to create a visual image that is as sweeping as his words! I chose to paint on natural wood and kept the sides of my painting natural, to coordinate with the organic subject matter. An integrate part of this piece is my calligraphy on all 4 sides of Emerson’s words in brushstrokes of paint., harmonious with my impressionistic scene’s colors, brushstrokes and mark making.
