The world of the people of the streets is stripped down to basic survival, but with a need of self worth, ownership. The grocery cart has become the symbol of that need to show ownership of something, anything. A metaphor for they themselves, cast offs, other peoples throw aways.
The carts, battered and bent, with the wonky wheels we hate to get when shopping, they live with it everyday, until the carts themselves are discarded and they become a part of the landscape, the urban landscape, lawn ornaments, trash piling up in vacant lots, bus stations and public parks. Seen and acknowledged by all that pass by, much more so than the people that once used them to transport their worlds.
