Sap Boiling Day
oil on cradled wood
18 x 12
I see the possibilities beyond the real landscape in front of my eyes. Sap Boiling Day represents my experience boiling maple sap this year, the sun rising beyond the tapped trees and the ever-present massive steam plume partially obscuring solid objects. This is what it feels like to boil sap outside on a cold February morning. Instead of defining, I strive to suggest. My imagination filters every scene whether en plein air or in studio and connects my feelings about the scene to the color and design choices I make. My expressive and impressionistic style celebrates color and atmosphere and my work plays with those elements in representational rural landscapes.
