My art flows from a vision of the world where love is beset by fear and uncertainty. I seek the expression of strong, life-giving love, and the uncertainly and fear that accompany even our best of times. Love is my root emotion, more real than the flesh and blood of daily life, but no matter how strong my feelings, there is little to give security. We all know that our lives will lead us to old age and death. Love is impermanent and abandon us at any moment. My art is distinctly Chinese while influenced by the West. I have found my expression in a variety of styles ranging from landscape to calligraphy and sculpture, each with tension between emotion and flesh, desire and transience. Art is the expression of my vision and the means by which I develop and realize love and fear across cultural and political boundaries, to touch people of any gender, race, or age. Art makes each of us glad of the love we have shared and wary of the future.
