Archeology is of interest to me because we find traces of past life through it. With the ancient forms I represent, I hope to give the sense of uncovering images, buried beneath the surface of the earth. My images are first photographed on location, and then printed in a darkroom or inkjet printer. Materials are then superimposed on the surface, including gypsum, plaster, pastel, charcoal and pencil. The overall effect is one of mystery and discovery as these ancient images appear uncovered through the multitude of layers. I hope to create a multiplanar reality, and a duality of time: past and present, in a structure of overlapping and interlocking planes that emphasize compressed space. It is punctuated through layers of fragmented, repeated images, transparencies of forms, and multifaceted colliding energies that all contribute to a sense of time intersecting with space.
