Shawn Farley
I work with a mix of found objects and foundry molds, using touch, playfulness, and intentional placement to turn them into anthropomorphic totems. I then paint them in colors that give them a unique personality or an aged patina. As I work, I let the shapes and objects guide me, focusing on the composition first and then editing until a theme emerges. This theme might be something like women’s rights, climate change, or personal topics such as spirituality or aging. I find meaning in these found objects and see them as a way to revive and recast history. By giving them personalities, I hope to create something soulful that viewers can relate to. These objects were once seen as trash, but by reimagining their purpose, they become something new and meaningful.
