Meredeth Turshen
I am an artist, teacher and writer living in Hoboken, NJ, who taught at Rutgers University and exhibits in the NY metropolitan area. My artwork incorporates landscape, still life and the human figure, often represented in the liminal space between reality and abstraction. These images, made during residencies at Vermont Studio Center, include reverse drawing in printing ink, which gives a soft, rich and varied line. Mark-making and surface texture are important, emphasized when reworking older work. Pentimento allows a painting to age, as I have. I studied at the Art Students League, starting in Saturday classes for children and continuing, after majoring in studio art at college, to train in workshops (e.g., NJ Printmaking Council, Rutgers Center for Innovative Printmaking).
