Melinda Welker
As a wildlife and nature photographer, my passion is photographing birds. By studying birds in their natural habitats, I’ve learned to anticipate bird behavior to photograph them when they preen, display courtship plumage, take flight, or dart in a pond to spear a fish. I work to capture images of a bird’s personality, behavior and beauty. I believe a photo can often eclipse the written word in expression and emotion; and the visual arts can bring awareness to the natural beauty around us to inspire conservation and protect wildlife habitats.
My photographic style is Asian influenced, where I prefer an uncluttered scene, with negative space, to allow the bird to be the star of the photo. My preference is to photograph birds with a shallow depth of field to achieve a soft background. I am fortunate to have won many local and national photography awards and my fine art photography resides in homes from NY to CA and overseas.
