What drives me to paint abstract portraits of women, families, ballerinas, Buddhas, is my interest with these subjects. Through their facial expressions, the eye-gazing, the figures’ poses, I convey an emotional connection with the viewer by sharing a common unspoken language that finds its roots in our memories. I use acrylics, watercolor, oil, sand, flowers, chalk, modelling paste as I experiment with different materials to create a 3-dimensional texture on canvas. I play with vibrant colors and texture so that I can create an abstract background where one can let their imagination wander. I let myself guide by brushes, knives, forks for transforming mental or real images into my own interpretation, drawing the viewer’s eye to a particular part of the face, body while capturing the beauty and story of the subject. The process of this transformation into my own personal signature is quite magical. My work has often been a vehicle for raising money for non-profit organizations.
