I am a witness. I paint watercolors of Polar and frozen landscapes based on my travels to Antarctica, Iceland, Alaska, and the High Arctic near the North Pole. Every painting is connected to the ice, the snow, and the worlds created by the cold. I work to break free from traditional watercolors by painting very wet and exploring surfaces that are not “made for” watercolor paints. Due to the paint’s unique ability to be reactivated, I go back and forth into the painting. Frozen worlds can look alien – I love playing with these images of unfamiliar worlds. During the Pandemic, I took inspiration from animals in human spaces. “In Hot Pursuit of the Cold and Ice” – my full-page article about my residency in the High Arctic, was published in the New York Times (http://nyti.ms/1PAO5mr).
