I have always been partial to line work. From early doodles, through the magical discovery of blind contour, and onto bold mark-making with a variety of tools, lines draw me in. Coming back to my art in recent years, I began tearing old drawings then rebuilding them into collage pieces, making linear connections between my past and present self. My layered figures push past edges to claim their space, mirroring my own resurgence.
My current body of work explores personal evolution and esteem for the strong females in my life. I recently joined a group of fellow artists to form a well of sorts, addressing the need to draw from and refill our creative buckets. Through these women, I learned of a residency in Ireland and within the year I was on my way. Particularly drawn to the textures and lines of the stone walls around holy wells and friaries in Ireland, my story evolved. Textured layers with bold marks convey the strong reverence I have for this place, these people, and now, myself.
