L.L. Erdman
Paper, acid and ink often conspire to create an unintended effect. Unpredictability is what excites me most as a printmaker.
My work reflects my fascination with the human figure and natural landscape. I use etching, aquatint and dry point to depict the symbiotic relationship between people and nature. I carry a sketchbook everywhere and am constantly on the look-out for patterns that find their way into my prints. All my work is based on original drawings, often combining life and imagination.
I studied art and literature at Bryn Mawr College and Cornell University. Because I teach literature and theatre, literary themes and motifs are a strong undercurrent in my work.
I am inspired by Jorge Schmeisser, Érik Desmazières and the print series of William Hogarth and Max Klinger.
