Through abstraction I excavate and reconcile peace and conflict narratives. I am interested in preserving historical practices of oral narratives and traditional painting techniques to safeguard obscure traditions and bring them into contemporary settings. I have been gathering audio narratives from women for sound installations. This was highly influenced by an old recording I did of my late grandmother. A quiltist, from rural North Carolina, born in 1910. I carry on her legacy of working with the hands to create meaning, value, community, and dignity by abstracting with various materials. Metaphorically, fragments of our interconnected lives. I communicate through painting, collage, audio, and moving image. Works emerge as emotive color fields that balance tumult with delicacy. I work to cultivate more generative interconnected communities through intimate and intentional engagements.
