Working in the arts all my life has been a lesson in possibilities. Creating is what I love; it leaves me in a state of wonder. Depending on the material I am using the process remains the same. I let the material speak. When I am painting, the initial brushstrokes, the colors, the forms, and the substrate meld into one. It all expresses my vision and guides my vision. Wood veneers have been wonderful to work with. The veneers are delicate by nature. I cut shapes to form a structure. That structure gives it strength. The wood gives it warmth. The hollows give it shadows and depth. I like working with curly maple; the grain shimmers giving it life. Sometimes I don’t know why I am creating what I am creating. It often is in retrospect that the work tells me where I am which then leads me to my next piece. It is a journey.
