Kathleen Kinkopf
My images are visual dream stories, laced with symbols and emotion that take the viewer to distant lands of the imagination. Sometimes described as ‘Magical Realism’, the imagery initially draws in the viewer with realistic detail and dramatic light, then magically transports them to an illusory world of the unexpected.
Nature and the female figure are central to my work. These powerful players create scenarios of unlimited possibilities that express symbology, spirituality, strength, and beauty. Basically self-taught, I am a humble student of The Flemish and Italian Masters, Romanticism, and Surrealism, and am inspired by teachings and writing of Joseph Campbell, Deepak Chopra, and Mary Oliver.
My paintings exchange quiet stories with the viewer which, based on their own interpretation and life experiences, can evoke tears, laughter, joy, or inner peace. While I do not create art with this intention, making this deep and private connection with the viewer is my greatest reward.
