My paintings reference landscape, underwater environments and natural elements. The observed reality is a starting point from which the creative process begins. Walking along a rocky shoreline, I reflect and breathe in the experience of being one with nature. These moments of awareness are the symbolic seed from which the true art form emerges. Intuition takes over as the process of painting becomes the new reality and takes me on a journey that is at once unexpected and ever changing. Just as nature is constantly evolving, my process takes on a life of its own and comes into existence through a series of additions and subtractions of layers, marks and sweeps of the palette knife. What emerges is a sense of place embedded with memories, complexity and layered light. Inspired initially by observed nature, my work is created entirely from memory and imagination. I think of these images as an homage to memory itself: at once vivid and intricately complex yet quite delicate and vulnerable.
