I’m very much a conceptual artist I work in a variety of styles and media including film but largely painting on canvas paper and board.
Recently I was reunited with possessions of mine that had been stored at a friend’s attic for many years! Seeing the old family photographs and objects I’d acquired in my younger years triggered an avalanche of memories. Using memories as a starting point and reference, my new works are abstract, colorful, and employ a heavy use of mark making. I call these new works “Envisioning Emotional Connections Between Objects, Time, Memory and Experience. Because, relative to these works, as Philip Guston says “the recognizable image excludes too much…painting should be more about experience than a statement of intent.”
