My paintings and drawings sit on the threshold between abstraction and reality. My narratives evolve from environmental causes and feminism.
There is an ebb and flow in my process. I begin paintings with layers of subtle color variations, responding to the paint itself more than a preconceived plan. I scrape lines into the surface and dab and smear it with rags. My drawings, too, begin with layers–usually charcoal–that I smudge, scratch and erase. This is when I need to sit with the work. To be with it, live with it, to listen to what it is saying. Colors, form, and overall mark-making call to me. Images begin to appear, as I tip the balance between abstraction and reality, seeking the elusive moment when the work is done.
