Ginny Howsam Friedman
For the past three years I have lived and worked in Dutchess County/the Hudson Valley, Upstate New York.
Here, I cannot escape–the landscape.
The natural environment of the Hudson Valley has triggers for me: rivers, ponds, mountains, trails, wetlands, farmland, and forests.
I look for underlying geometry and order amid nature’s chaos.
Using drawing and mark making with charcoal, graphite, and wax pencil, while layering oils, I paint an imagined reality from a perceived experience.
Draw/erase. Paint/scrape. Again. And again. A ghost remains. I work toward a bilateral glimpse of interconnections between what we can see and what we imagine we can see–often including both superficial and subterranean geography.
This blend casts the familiar in a new light.
