Efrat Baler-Moses
I am a multidisciplinary artist. My hybrid constructions blur the boundaries between painting and sculpture. Created to be exhibited either on walls, stands and turntables; I join backsides to the front of canvases and incorporate 3D elements beneath, on, or behind the canvas. I construct and deconstruct the canvas, revealing a pseudo-animation that exposes the artist’s intricate process, layered meanings, and evolving forms within. Influenced by diverse cultural experiences, my themes explore current conflicts & events, cultural trends, gender advocacy movements, art-about-art and personal and social issues. Through my distinct style, colors, and personal narrative, I explore the hidden narratives behind ordinary objects, landscapes, figures, and portraits, revealing deeper and sometimes unsettling layers beneath their facades. I challenge the viewing habits of the digital age viewer; my paintings attempt to reshape today’s fleeting frontal fleeting viewing norms.
