Painting completely absorbs me and calms my mind. The intent of my work is to extend that calm and peacefulness to the viewer. Since I enjoy playing the piano and life drawing, both directly impact my work. Each painting begins with rhythmic lines in black and various colors. From this I determine what areas need to be emphasized with white or soft colors. I utilize layering color, veiling color, and rhythmic line patterns to take the viewer on a visual dance through the painting. I favor working in acrylic because it dries quickly and requires decisive action. Often I will paint on the back of the canvas thoughts or ideas that inspired the painting.
