DEBORAH ROSATO
I love to paint outside. There is something about being among nature that I can’t stop yearning for . Hearing the birds and even the sounds of people going about their business bring a calm sense of relaxation and joy in the moment. I have an ethereal feeling when I am outdoors gardening, kayaking and painting.I hope to bring to my paintings what I’m experiencing so that I can convey that to my viewers. I want them to feel that they are experiencing the moment too.
Light and shadow are extremely important to my work. Since I have 2 main mediums that I work with I utilize each one for different subject matter. I have a strong connection with birds so watercolor batik seems to bring them to life. It starts out as watercolor batik as I layer my watercolors between layers of wax. I then remove the wax when the surface is completely covered. I never quite know what to expect. I like to add some touches of pastel to bring out the highlights and the painting seems to come alive.
