Clarice M Shirvell
I’m an artist and illustrator who exhibits work in galleries and museums throughout the Tri-State area. I work primarily in acrylic, ink, watercolor, and charcoal, drawing inspiration from life — whether it’s figure drawing, landscapes, still life, or urban scenes.
My process begins with observational sketches and studies done on location. In the studio, I develop those into larger, expressive pieces. As an ink sketcher, I often draw directly with paint on canvas — skipping the redraw — which gives my work immediacy and a raw, emotional quality.
At the heart of my art is a desire to reveal the beauty in everyday life. I believe that if people pause and really observe the world around them — nature, people, quiet moments — they’ll find a sense of peace and presence. That’s what I feel when I sketch, and it’s what I want to share through my work.
