My art is about the experience of landscape – the moments of movement that come and go in an instant. As an abstract-landscape painter, I have always been interested in how landscape feels. When I first flew in an airplane as a teenager, I was mesmerized by the way the world looked from the plane’s window. The shapes were rhythmically dancing. The light from the sun was magical. These images have stayed with me and inform this series I call “Brainscapes”. In these process-based paintings, most of the literal landscape references are removed. Transparent layering of light, color and movement work together to elicit visceral responses. For me, these paintings are places of happiness.
