Barbara Bell
I make relief prints from conventional and unusual materials. The imagery seems simplistic, but it is designed to be a springboard for the viewer to observe their reactions and to observe what rises to the surface in their emotional responses.
The process of creating art is as significant as the final piece, Engaging in art making and meditation both dampen the pre-frontal cortex and elicit an Alpha state. That brainwave rhythm permits creativity, problem solving, and contentment. It is my hope to illicite this state for the viewers of my work, and meanings and experiences will differ from person to person.
Exhibitions: NYC: Westbeth, The Knitting Factory, the Interchurch Gallery, Haugeland Art Museum, Norway, Boston Print Fair; The Hunterdon Museum, and galleries in the metro NY/NJ area.
