ABOUT CHAPTERS

NAWA members have the opportunity to join the Florida, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and South Carolina Chapters and participate in exhibitions and activities in these states.

The chapter initiative was begun in 1995 by Liana Moonie (NAWA President 1987-89) who founded the Florida and Massachusetts Chapters. The South Carolina Chapter was founded in 2018 by Susan Hammond. The Pennsylvania Chapter was founded in 2024 collaboratively with Lolly Owens, Jen Haefeli as well as national officers and the current Executive Director.

Joining a Chapter
NAWA Signature Members may join any of the state chapters so long as their national membership is up to date. Chapters have additional dues of $30 if paid during the optimum pay period (Oct. 1- November 1 annually). After this period, a late fee of $5 is added to make dues $35. The optimum period is provided to minimize administrative work for validating memberships.

Initiating a NAWA Chapter
Members can initiate a local chapter by creating an informal group of Signature Members, and once they grow to 15 members, and have a potential board, NAWA National can help them register with their state to legalize the chapter under NAWA’s 501c3 status. They must have a Board with President, Vice President, Secretary, Membership Chair, Treasurer- a bank account for dues and transactions, as well as members or chairpersons to facilitate a website, exhibitions and other activities. Chapters are otherwise independent for exhibits, advertising, scholarships, social engagement, and other agenda items they choose.
