Homesick

Walking in the East Village, I was struck by the graffiti shouting out HOMESICK on the side of the building.
The message can be interpreted in many ways…Longing for home, disappointment in seeing the neighborhood change, or on closer inspection… what is lost, as can be read in the partial message “the buildings we lose, are as important….”
The strong statement, the blank white of where the building had been, along with the diagonals underscoring HOMESICK and the painterly weatherworn posters along the wall, come together to create an impactful visual image.
