Ethereal Valley

The artwork depicts an alien landscape bathed in an ethereal, almost otherworldly glow. Much of my work is categorized as Magic Realism and it’s an outgrowth of my work in Science Fiction and Fantasy illustration over the years. This piece was an approach to an alien environment that is far more otherworldly, however, my inspiration came from a place on Earth, The Valley of Dreams located in New Mexico. My formations are not exactly the same, they are varied and more surreal and I made a point to not copy any of the formations. The overall atmosphere is serene and yet awe inspiring. The piece suggests a sense of exploration, discovery and a hint of the vast unknown mysteries of the cosmos. Ethereal Valley was also chosen as an interior illustration for the March issue of Utopia Magazine.
