Sadie
watercolor and collage
17 x 21

Sadie was listed in early census documents as a dressmaker. Her husband died early and she made ends meet by sewing dresses for women in the community. She was skilled using a treadle sewing machine, sewing for others, and making quilts that keep her family warm even to today.

The goal of my current work is to shine a spotlight on the often overlooked narratives of the women who came before us, aiming to shed light on their quiet yet significant contributions to society. Through my art, I hope to amplify the voices of the unseen, helping viewers to contemplate the profound resonance of untold stories and unnoticed legacies.
